Life Living Itself

Waves of Awareness by Jeanette Amlie
As we begin to allow Life to start Living itself, anxiousness can arise in the mind about the perceived uncertainty of the future. Yet simultaneously there can be a deep & stirring excitement at the mere thought of letting go of the burden of planning one more strategy to achieve what we have been conditioned to believe is happiness.
At this phase if we can simply continue to watch both the mind and its anxiousness, while appreciating this new fluid excitement that is arising, something new can begin to unfold. During this time that we live in the temptations can be great to follow the conditioned mind's desire to control what the definition of happiness is & how to attain it. There are myriad teachings everywhere on how to do this. Yet there is also a growing populace of disillusioned people who have followed these "rules" to a T & yet still this illusion of "happiness" remains illusive & ephemeral.
It is so hard for the mind to comprehend that it only takes a moment of letting go of our need for an expected outcome, for the field of creative energy in our life to begin to shift & change. For aeons we have been conditioned to believe in both the struggle & the desire for instant gratification, and this polarity traps us in endless cycles of vacillation.
But to simply "STOP" all effort for one moment, as Gangaji would say, and watch how the organism responds can be quite miraculous. If we actually surrender into this momentary experiment completely, we can witness the most stupendous wave of loosening of every system within the Human Being. The shoulders may immediately drop an inch or two! The deep automatic breaths can arise from a depth rarely experienced before. And for that moment (totally acknowledging permission for the mind to go back to planning two minutes from now!) we may touch what has been here all along.
At first it may actually feel like the absence of feelings, which can be disconcerting, especially when a being has grappled with endless cycles of repression & overwhelm. Yet if we continue to simply witness this experience we can discover that it feels like the most natural expression of our existence we have ever known. And then, usually, the mind grabs hold of this new experience like a little kid with a new toy & runs off with it! Let it have its fun, for each time you allow yourself to explore this little experiment it will feel less & less foreign. Each time you touch this timeless presence it will move more & more into the foreground of your awareness. And over time it may even, just maybe, begin to infect the daily life you are living.
So I invite you, as many wise sages of the past & present are now doing, to explore this moment with the wonder of a child. See what is here regardless of the circumstances, dreams, desires & dreads of your life. You just might find the gem that has been hidden within you all along. But don't trust me, trust your own direct experience. For the true source of this wisdom lies right within your being, which I can only point to with a smile. ; )
